History of Erotic Literature

The earliest form of erotic literature on the net may be the ‘sneaker net’ where friends passed articles on magnetic disks. At this stage, it was all about creating or ready-made erotic articles or novels, copying them onto magnetic disks, and then taking the disks to other people.

After the introduction of Fido Net to Taiwan (around 1987), dial-up BBS stations began to be established, and there was an exclusive Fido Net Zone in Taiwan. domestic stations began to merge and connect, and 90 net and Game Net, which were modeled after Fido Net at the time, began to have an exclusive forum for erotic literature, and so erotic literature began to thrive in Taiwan. The erotic literature in Taiwan began to thrive.

The sources of these erotic literatures were classical Chinese literatures, novels circulating in the underground market, as well as the underground Chinese translations of FRANCE SHOIN in Japan at that time, together with Taiwan’s erotic literature writers, such as Standard User and Shen Mufan, who started to create them. Erotic literature on the Internet gradually began to circulate. With today’s Internet speed, it is hard to imagine that it was only 1200 bps at that time. In terms of transmission cost, using sneaker Internet is still cheaper than using Fido Net.

In the middle of 1994, the predecessor of Tiger II appeared, which was the layout of erotic literature BBS. At that time, the pedagogical network (TANet) has been actively involved in Internet-related work, when the network equipment manufacturers still belong to the era of a hundred competing, CISCO is just a small and inconspicuous manufacturers, and even the most popular WWW has only appeared for less than a year, the term ‘global information network’ has not yet appeared. These BBS stations began to utilize the convenience of the Internet, due to the popularity of BBS plus News, but also let the Fido Net system gradually downhill.

Sky Hawk began reposting articles previously scattered across Fido Net, 90 Net, and Game Net into the Erotic Literature Watch section. A number of students also began to write, including plover, Scar Man, S.B. LEE, and Autumn Leaves. Lao Ge, who had worked really hard on his typing, also typed translations of French Books into his computer. Women also began to write on it, such as HM Fish, and because of Tiger 2’s aristocratic membership system, the quality of Tiger 2’s creators and readers has not yet been surpassed by any other station. Of course, there were more than a handful of famous writers at the time, but the readers of Tiger 2 were more or less involved.

In 1996, the Weber Adult Network and in 1997, the Aubergine Club were the watershed of mass popularization. These two biggest posting stations allowed erotic literature to start spreading on the WWW. The number of authors began to increase, but so did the number of unfinished articles. Chinese writers also appeared, including OCR, Sunray, and Lin Tong. Of course, readers could be anonymous, and many authors who could be famous disappeared because their works were tampered with or maligned, such as Ma Wang and others. Then the erotic works of these two stations disappeared because the government started to manage the Internet.

In the same period, Tao Tao began to organize related articles and turned it into a pure text file until today, while Sexscape turned it into a Homepage format, but after enlisting in the army in 1999, it was not updated and became extinct, and the Taiwanese erotic websites of the same period are still operating miserably.

Due to the government’s management of Internet, it allowed Yuan Yuan to appear in 1998. All of the writers switched to Yuan Yuan, and many of the publishing stations began to decline. At this time, the number of writers, both in terms of creation and in terms of Japanese and English translations, began to grow exponentially. After Yuan Yuan set up its library, the stations that collected old articles, such as Momo, gradually declined. Of course, many stations are still in operation, but a situation of unification has emerged. It’s hard to say whether this is a good or bad situation.
